A Brief History: A wholly owned subsidiary of SNCF with annual turnover in the region of 203 million euros, SeaFrance was formed on 1 January 1996 following the end of a pooling agreement between SNAT and Stena Line. A Brief History: Norfolkline is a Dutch private sector company owned by A P Moller Finance of Denmark.
Their passenger service from Dover to Dunkerque was launched in May 2000 utilizing the vessel 'Northern Merchant', closely followed by the 'Midnight Merchant' introduced later that same year. A Brief History: Publicly owned, Transmanche Ferries was founded on the initiative of the Conseil Général de la Seine Maritime, Charles Revet, who’s objective was to ensure that trade and tourist links between the Seine Maritime and Somme regions of France and the South of England were maintained. A Brief History: In 1964 two Channel Island businessmen founded Condor Ferries having decided to comfront the conventional ferry services already operating on the Channel Islands to France route.
It was decided that Condor Ferries would offer a fast ferry alternative and subsequently their first vessel was a PT50 hydrofoil, built in Italy and logically baned Condor1. Two years later in 1966 passenger numbers had grown from 10,000 to over 60,000 a year and over the following 20 years prompted Condor to introduce further fast ferry technology. A Brief History: In 2005 the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company celebrated their 175th anniversary as the world's oldest continuously operating passenger shipping company. Although prior to their formation as a company in 1830 there had been various operators servicing the Isle of man these services were irregular and vessels undependable, at times isolating the Island for weeks. Subsequently, in 1829 local residents formed a committee with the task of investigating the possibility of forming a Steam Packet Company of their own.
Indeed, the following year The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company was born with their first vessel 'Mona's Isle' commissioned at a cost of 7,250 pounds and sailed between Douglas and Liverpool.
The more reliable service and in 1962 introduction of the first car carrying vessel 'Manx Maid' resulted in progressively establishing the Isle of Man as a popular and chic tourist destination option.

A Brief History: Wightlink is a British private sector company, owned by venture capital company CINVen Limited. A Brief History: Red Funnel Ferries is a trading name of the Southampton Isle of Wight and South of England Royal Mail Steam Packet Public Limited Company, originally formed in 1861 and is a British private sector company. The company was aquired by the owners of Southampton Docks, Associated British Ports in 1989. Being the original operator serving the Isle of Wight they have operated services over the past 140 years.
1969 witnessed re-introduction of high speed vessels, the company opting for Italian built hydrofoils to challenge British Rail Seaspeed's hovercraft services then operating between Southampton and Cowes. A new roll-on-roll-off flagship 'MV Netley Castle' was introduced in 1974 and following a hostile take-over threat by Sally Line in 1989, the Red Funnel Group was aquired by Associated British Ports Holdings plc.
There followed an investment of 3 million pounds into two high-speed catamarans in 1991, in the same year their hydrofoils were sold and vehicle services to West Cowes discontinued.
1992 saw creation of Red Funnel Holidays to service increased interest in the inclusive holiday package market. A Brief History: Formally a steamer company called David Hutcheson & Co and born in 1851, Caledonian MacBrayne is now a British state owned company that until 1990 was part of the state owned Scottish Transport Group (originally formed in 1969).
